In between are recycling companies and council offices, and each plays a role in the disposal process. For instance, asbestos abatement companies have to register with the council offices. This information comes in handy during disposal since a service provider has to inform the council offices about their desire to dispose of asbestos at a designated landfill. If the service provider ignores this step and goes ahead with dispose of the asbestos, then it is considered illegal, and you are liable. Therefore, it is crucial that a service provider issues you with a copy of their hazardous waste manifest form. The document must be duly signed at each stage of the disposal process to show that no step is skipped.

Asbestos abatement companies can remove any amount of asbestos and asbestos-containing materials from a facility. However, before they dispose of it, the firms must confirm whether the local asbestos disposal site accepts the amount of asbestos that needs to be disposed of. Asbestos can be grouped into two categories: Class A asbestos and Class B asbestos. The difference between these two is that the former is mainly friable asbestos, which is powdery or can easily be crushed to dust when dry. Class B asbestos, on the other hand, is the non-friable asbestos since it is bonded and cannot crumble easily. Although asbestos is dangerous in general, the most potent is the friable form since it is easy to breathe in. Therefore, when hiring an asbestos abatement company, ask for their licensing. For instance, if the asbestos in your facility is the friable type, then you need a firm that is licensed to handle Class A asbestos.
